International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) together with a range of international partners and co-funders will welcome young professionals and international experts on the coastal zone of Attica, Vouliagmeni, Greece, for an intensive course on Black Sea issues. The event’s working language will be English.
The 4th IBSS aims to contribute to confidence building and networking across the Black Sea region and beyond, by providing a forum for study and dialogue in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment. The event is targeted at young professionals (22-35 years old), such as policy-makers, academics, journalists, diplomats, Members of Parliament, entrepreneurs, civil society leaders and researchers (postdocs and PhD candidates) primarily from the countries of the wider Black Sea area, EU member states, the United States and Central Asia.
The event will offer participants the unique opportunity to gain insights into a wide range of issues related to Black Sea regional cooperation, such as security concerns, relations with key stakeholders, democratic institutions, good governance and environmental governance presented by prominent scholars, experts and policymakers. In this context various sessions will address the following issues:
Security concerns: energy, euro-atlantic institutions and transnational risks
Environmental governance
Regional cooperation and sustainable development
Institutional reforms and participation
The three-day intensive course will consist of interactive sessions, with related reading material provided. While speakers will set the stage for lively and interactive discussion on the different topics, workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to closely analyse specific conflicts, develop action recommendations for policy makers and civil society leaders and produce project ideas to be pursued after the end of the Symposium. Participants will also have the chance to experience beautiful days in the picturesque coastal zone of Attica and visit the archaeological site of Sounio.
